Hello, here’s a guide to the highlights of Mt. Takao in Tokyo Metropolis.
You may have heard of Michelin, but first let us introduce a mountain walk that delights all five senses.
In the morning you’ll notice the scent of the trees and birdsong; in the afternoon the aroma of soba drifts from the teahouses.
Climbing the stone steps brings you into the solemn atmosphere of Takaosan Yakuoin Temple, where you can take a slow, respectful walk along the approach and offer your prayers.
Takaosan Yakuoin Temple
Address: 2177 Takaomachi, Hachioji City, Tokyo Metropolis 193-8686
Highlights: the Niomon gate, Daishidou, the 108 Steps, Octopus Cedar (Takosugi), the Bussarito Pagoda, and other temple buildings and historic sites to enjoy.
When visiting, walk considerately around others so you can enjoy a calm experience.
Using the cable car or lift lets you tailor the walk to your fitness level. On clear days you can see the Tokyo skyline and seasonal flowers.
Pause at a mountainside teahouse to taste tororo soba or dango and catch your breath.
There are many photo spots, so bring extra battery power.
The approach has some uneven sections, so wear comfortable shoes and take your time.
Bringing drinks and warm clothing is reassuring.
Don’t forget comfortable shoes, a drink, and your camera. We look forward to your visit!
Please come and enjoy your time here 🙂

Also, at Mount Takao, from 1:09 in the video, you can enjoy a beer garden while savoring the night view of nearby Hachioji at the Mount Takao Beer Mount. If the weather is good, you can enjoy the night view of central Tokyo and Yokohama. With its open atmosphere and picturesque scenery, the drinks will go down smoothly.
When you visit Mount Takao, be sure to also visit the power spot, Takaozan Yakuoin, from 2:03 in the video. At Kiyotaki Station of the Mount Takao Cable Car, there is a bronze statue of enka singer Saburo Kitajima, who resides in Hachioji, making it a popular photo spot that is Instagram-worthy.

The turtle was slowly walking along the road.
He was on his way home to his house by the pond.
At that moment, the rabbit hopped over and said,
"Turtle, you're really slow. At this rate, the sun will set before you get home."
The turtle replied angrily,
"I can run very fast when I need to."
The rabbit laughed and said,
"When would that be?"
After thinking for a moment, the rabbit said,
"Alright, let's have a race to the top of that hill tomorrow morning. Whoever gets there first wins."
"Understood. Let's race."
The turtle replied.
The next morning, the turtle and the rabbit lined up, ready to race to the top of the hill.
The rabbit hopped over the river, passed through the forest, and ran across the field. When he reached the slope leading up the hill, he looked back but couldn't see the turtle at all.
"Hmph, what did I tell you? It's foolish for a turtle to race a rabbit. Well, I'll take a break here."

Located on the western side of Tokyo, Hachioji offers a perfect balance between nature and urban life.
The area around the station is lined with large commercial facilities and cafes, and just a short walk away, traditional shopping streets continue to thrive.
On weekends, you can hike up Mt. Takao.
Despite being about an hour by train from the city center, the view from the summit feels like a different world.
Enjoying coffee in the clear air and eating soba after descending are the best.
Another charm of Hachioji is the warmth of its people.
In cafes and small shops run by locals, conversations often flow, making you want to stay longer.
This city, where new discoveries and nostalgia coexist, will surely make you fall in love when you take a leisurely walk.

On October 6th, it was the fifteenth night, and on October 7th, it was the sixteenth night. I learned that '十六夜' (izayoi) is pronounced 'izayoi' and means 'the sixteenth night.' Both nights had a bright moon illuminating the night. The photos were taken on the night of the 7th. I tried various adjustments to capture the moon's patterns, and the results are visible in the fourth and fifth images. Despite the clouds, I managed to take beautiful photos by adjusting the camera settings. Can you see the rabbit? I think my photography skills have improved just a little.
