Hello, here’s a guide to the highlights of Mt. Takao in Tokyo Metropolis.
You may have heard of Michelin, but first let us introduce a mountain walk that delights all five senses.
In the morning you’ll notice the scent of the trees and birdsong; in the afternoon the aroma of soba drifts from the teahouses.
Climbing the stone steps brings you into the solemn atmosphere of Takaosan Yakuoin Temple, where you can take a slow, respectful walk along the approach and offer your prayers.
Takaosan Yakuoin Temple
Address: 2177 Takaomachi, Hachioji City, Tokyo Metropolis 193-8686
Highlights: the Niomon gate, Daishidou, the 108 Steps, Octopus Cedar (Takosugi), the Bussarito Pagoda, and other temple buildings and historic sites to enjoy.
When visiting, walk considerately around others so you can enjoy a calm experience.
Using the cable car or lift lets you tailor the walk to your fitness level. On clear days you can see the Tokyo skyline and seasonal flowers.
Pause at a mountainside teahouse to taste tororo soba or dango and catch your breath.
There are many photo spots, so bring extra battery power.
The approach has some uneven sections, so wear comfortable shoes and take your time.
Bringing drinks and warm clothing is reassuring.
Don’t forget comfortable shoes, a drink, and your camera. We look forward to your visit!
Please come and enjoy your time here 🙂
