【Amakusa West Coast🍁 Autumn Kiln Tour Introduction of Participating Kilns / 05 Amakusa Karatsu Gozankigama】 The "36th Amakusa West Coast Autumn Kiln Tour" will be held for five days from Thursday, October 9th to Monday, October 13th, featuring six kilns from Reihoku and Amakusa City.😊 During this period, new works will be on display and available for purchase, along with discounted sales. We warmly invite you to come and enjoy Amakusa ceramics and the beautiful scenery of the Amakusa West Coast🌊🌅! (Note: Tenjiku Kiln will not participate.🙇‍♀️🙇) 🍁🍁🍁 Introduction of Participating Kilns / As you head south along the Amakusa West Coast, you'll find the Kozatoko area at the end of a road that bends toward the sea. The "Amakusa Karatsu Gozankigama" stands overlooking the calm seaside, bustling with people enjoying diving and kayaking. It was previously known as "Amakusa Karatsu Juro Kiln," but this autumn it has reverted to its former name, "Amakusa Karatsu Gozankigama." In the exhibition room, you'll find works reflecting the distinct personalities of the husband and wife. Mr. Kameyama-go honed his skills in Karatsu, famous for its pottery, while his wife, Ms. Kameyama Sanae, studied ceramics at the Arita Institute of Ceramic Technology. Even though they are both from Saga Prefecture, there are significant differences in the materials and characteristics of pottery from Karatsu and Arita, such as "is it clay or stone?" and "is it earthenware or porcelain?" Mr. Gozan's works captivate viewers with their forms and the tranquil natural patterns created by clay and glaze. The lines on the vessels evoke the classical style unique to Karatsu ware, embodying the "aesthetic of subtraction." Meanwhile, Ms. Sanae uses a blue pigment called gosu and applies modern and expressive designs using underglaze before glazing. Her illustrations are warm and inviting, sure to bring a smile to your face. Using completely different materials, each of them has their own artistic style. These works are born from the resources available in Amakusa. The exhibition room, filled with vessels nurtured by the natural environment of Amakusa, radiates a wonderful harmony.
