Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that he discussed large-scale arms purchases from the United States with President Donald Trump, as well as holding operational-level talks. Mr. Zelenskyy held a press conference on Saturday in the capital Kyiv, after returning from the United States where he attended the United Nations General Assembly. He mentioned the details of his meeting with Donald Trump, specifying that he discussed an important agreement to purchase weapons from the United States. Mr. Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine would advance negotiations at the operational level to obtain a significant amount of arms from the United States. After the meeting, Mr. Trump expressed on social media his opinion that Ukraine could regain its occupied territory if it received support from Europe. When asked by NHK about the American president's viewpoint, Mr. Zelenskyy stated that Europe needed to understand the threats posed by Russia. He added that it would be strange for European countries to continue importing energy resources from Russia and that they should stop. Slovakia imports energy from Russia. Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that he plans to begin negotiations as early as next month and present alternative energy support measures to the country.
