Rock Climbing on Mt. Oku-Hotaka! The Breathtaking View From the Peak Will Change How You View the World!

Climbing Round Trip From Mt. Oku-Hotaka to Uma no Se: Video Introduction This video, titled "Mt. Oku-Hotaka to Gendarmes|Route Change After a Rockslide|Video of a Detailed Round Trip of Uma no Se" (奥穂高からジャンダルム 滑落みて馬の背ピストンへ変更 馬の背詳細往復動画), was uploaded by "Biryu Jr." Mt. Oku-Hotaka Photo:The Hotaka mountain range from Mt. Norikura Mt. Oku-Hotaka is the main mountain of the Hotaka Mountain Range, which straddles Nagano and Gifu prefectures in the Hida Mountain Range of Chubu-Sangaku National Park in the southern part of Japan's Northern Alps. At 3,190 meters above sea level, it is the highest peak in the Northern Alps and the third highest in Japan after Mt. Fuji and Mt. Kita. Mt. Oku-Hotaka (奥穂高岳), Mt. Karasawa (涸沢岳), Kita-Hotaka (北穂高岳), Mae-Hotaka (前穂高岳), Nishi-Hotaka (西穂高岳), and Mt. Myojin (明神岳), are collectively referred to as Mt. Hotaka. It is said that the origin of the mountain's name comes from a legend that a god named Hotakami-no-Mikoto descended to the summit of Mt. Oku-Hotaka. Even today, the mountain is revered as a sacred mountain by local people, who visit and climb it to pray. The first person to summit Mt. Oku-Hotaka was surveyor Gunji Abe in 1906. With its challenging routes, powerful rocky ridges, and panoramic views from the ridge, Mt. Hotaka continues to attract many climbers to this day. The Geological Features of Mt. Oku-Hotaka Here, we'll take a look at the geological features of Mt. Oku-Hotaka ・Volcanic Terrain Mt. Hotaka, including Mt. Oku-Hotaka, is formed mainly of dacitic ignimbrite called "Hotaka andesite." This rock was formed by pyroclastic flows during an eruption approximately 1.75 million years ago, and was uplifted 2,000m over a period of 1 million years after a large-scale eruption. ・Glacial Landforms Many glacial landforms have been observed on Mount Hotaka. Glacial landforms are landforms created by glaciers that have accumulated soil, sand, rocks, etc., while carving away the land below. Mt. Oku-Hotaka – Uma no Se Photo:Uma no Se on Mt. Oku-Hotaka Mt. Okuhotaka, a famous mountain climbing spot, has a narrow ridge called "Uma no Se" (horse's back), which is steep and features cliffs on both sides. Because of how steep it is, it's also a dangerous place where falling accidents occur frequently. The slopes, which look like a combination of rubble, require extreme caution in order to prevent accidents. In the video, you can see how they decide not go to Gendarme (a rocky summit between Mt. Oku-Hotaka and Mt. Nishi-Hotaka), and instead decide to descend via Uma no Se. It's as realistic as if you were there yourself. The sound of the wind, the hands gripping the rocks, the shadows of climbers moving toward the spectacular views... the power of these scenes draws you in. [Video] 5:44 - Advancing Along Uma no Se Mt. Oku-Hotaka – Routes and Difficulties Here are the routes of Mt. Oku-Hotaka according to difficulty level: ・Kamikochi Course (上高地コース) - The recommended route for beginners Starting from Kamikochi Bus Center, the most common route is [Myojin (明神) - Tokusawa (徳沢) - Yoko (横尾) - Hontanibashi (本谷橋) - Karasawa (涸沢) - Mt. Hotaka Hut (穂高岳山荘, Hotakadake Sanso), Mt. Oku-Hotaka]. Your itinerary should be arranged according to your physical fitness. It is common to stay overnight during the climb. ・Kenkyakusha-Muke Course (健脚者向けコース) The rough route is [Shin Hotaka Onsen (新穂高温泉) - Shirade Hut Ruins (白出小屋跡) - Mt. Hotaka Hut (穂高岳山荘), Mt. Oku-Hotaka]. The trailhead is at Shin Hotaka Onsen. Since there are some points on the ascent where it's easy to make a mistake on the route, it's recommended that you be accompanied by an experienced climber. Furthermore, since route conditions change according to lingering snowfall, it's necessary to check trail conditions ahead of time. Kitahotaka Hut (北穂高小屋) - Karasawa Hut (涸沢岳) - Mt. Hotaka Hut (穂高岳山荘)]. The ridge course from Yarigatake continues through rocky terrain with considerable height differences. Normally, three nights are required for this route, and extreme caution is needed as there are many steep sections. Summary of Mt. Oku-Hotaka Photo:Mt. Oku-Hotaka In this article. we introduced one of the three tallest peaks in Japan, Mt. Oku-Hotaka, and Uma no Se. Although there are dangers, such as slips and falling rocks, Mt. Oku-Hotaka is a thrilling mountaineering experience that features spectacular views of nature that attracts many climbers. Although the climb is not without its dangers, the view from the summit and the thrill of climbing over Uma no Se is said to be exceptional. If you wish to take on this challenge, please do your research and go fully prepared. That being said, if you're just here to enjoy some of the views, hopefully the video is enough for you. 【TripAdvisor】Mt. About Grand Seiko This video is "Inside Grand Seiko, Episode One: The Master Craftsman" produced by "Hodinkee". It is a valuable video that shows us the state and production process of the workshop that makes the world-class precision watches "Grand Seiko." The commitment of these Watchmaker's cannot be overlooked! The Japanese Micro-Artist Studio Behind Grand Seiko Watches Source :YouTube screenshot Seiko Epson's Shiojiri office in the Koshinetsu region and the Suwa region of Nagano prefecture, introduced in this video, was established with the aim of inheriting the techniques of the watchmaker "Micro Artist Studio." "Every one must be beautiful," says watchmaker Yoshifusa Nakazawa, a watch assembler who continues to produce watches in this studio (0:50 in the video). Mr. Nakazawa has been active as a watch assembler since joining the company in 1978, and in 1981 won the World Skills Competition in Japan. In this workshop, the assembly of the movement (the part that controls the driving of the wristwatch), the installation of the dial, and the case insertion are all performed consistently, so that steps such as maintenance and overhaul can be easily performed. From 1:06 of the video, you can see how precisely each watch is assembled, sometimes using a microscope. From 3:23 in the video, he says, "Mr. Nakazawa inherits 100% of the technology of assembling watches, and the best watches are assembled neatly." What Is Grand Seiko's Original Mechanism the "Spring Drive"!? Source :YouTube screenshot The mechanism “spring drive” mounted on Grand Seiko, which can be seen from 2:51 in the video, is said to be a third engine that combines machinery and quartz. It has a history of 20 years as a model symbolizing the Grand Seiko brand. The model called "44GS" established the design of Seiko style in 1967. It lists three policies, which are as follows: 1. Design consisting of a plane and quadratic surface, with a plane as the main body. Cubic surfaces are not used in principle. 2. Increase the area of the flat surface as much as possible over all cases, dials and hands. 3. In principle, each surface is a mirror surface, and distortion from each mirror surface is minimized as much as possible. Based on this policy, the 44GS was designed with nine features. This Seiko style is designed to spice up the beauty of Japan. It considers the "light" of Japanese people, and those who hold it can feel the beauty of the Japanese in its undistorted, flat planes. Grand Seiko can be called a work packed with the aesthetic sense of Japan. Master Shops Where You Can Buy Limited Items From Grand Seiko Photo:SEIKO The Grand Seiko Master Shops refer to about 140 shops in Japan that have signed a contract with Seiko, and there are several types of limited models sold only to that master shop. Not only men models, but valuable diver models and ladies' models are popular as well. For a list of watches, see the official website. In addition, you can apply for battery replacement from the official website, so please check it out. Of course, Grand Seiko can also be purchased online. Summary of the Popular Japanese Watch Grand Seiko Source :YouTube screenshot Japan's proud Grand Seiko watches have a high reputation in Japan and around the world as watches with a history and ideology. At the end of the video, Nakazawa says, "I imagine that those who use Grand Seiko watches will hand them over to the next generation and pass them on." Why not get your own watch? One that has been created as a work of art that inherits Japanese technology. 【Official Website】Grand Seiko Official Site https://www.grand-seiko.com/us-en -

The Fireworks Festival 'Shinmei no Hanabi': Video Introduction This video, titled "[4K] The No. 1 Fireworks Display in Japan, as Selected by Pyrotechnicians - Shinmei Fireworks 2019 Grand Finale - (shot on BMPCC4K)" ([4K] 花火師が選ぶ日本一の花火大会 神明の花火 2019 グランドフィナーレ - Shinmei Fireworks 2019 Grand Finale - (shot on BMPCC4K)), was uploaded by "AQUA Geo Graphic." About the Shinmei Fireworks Festival Photo:The Shinmei Fireworks Festival grounds near the Fuefuki River The Ichikawamisato Furusato Summer Festival, known as 'Shinmei Fireworks,' the largest of its kind in Yamanashi Prefecture, is a fireworks display with rich tradition and history. The video provides an authentic view of the grand finale for the 31st Shinmei Fireworks Festival in 2019. Held on the banks of the Fuefuki River in Ichikawamisato, Yamanashi, in Japan's Koshin'etsu Region, a total of 20,000 colorful fireworks, including massive mortars, colored the night sky. Originally, the Shinmei Fireworks Event was held as an annual event, with tours organized to enjoy the Shinmei Fireworks Festival while staying at a nearby hotel, and tickets for the paid spectator seating area sold out. Unfortunately, the 32nd event was cancelled due to the novel coronavirus. Last year, the 33rd Shinmei Fireworks Festival was held with a shortened time frame and no spectators, and the Executive Committee surprised the audience by offering a live broadcast of the fireworks with a themed fireworks display. The 34th Shinmei Fireworks Festival in 2022 will be held despite the coronavirus pandemic, and will be held while taking measures to prevent the spread of the virus. The event will start at 7:15 p.m. on August 7, 2022, the day of the fireworks. The History of the Shinmei Fireworks Festival Photo:A statue of Takeda Shingen, Yamanashi, Japan The origin of the Shinmei Fireworks Festival dates back to Japan's Warring States Period, when the famous warlord Takeda Shingen sent up smoke signals in battle. It is said that the exact location where the Shinmei Fireworks Festival originated is a shrine dedicated to Jinzaemon, who introduced paper-making techniques to the people during Japan's Heian period (794-1185), thereby enriching the lives of the people. The town also prospered as a washi (traditional Japanese paper) production center, and 'Ichikawa Washi' became an essential part of fireworks making. During the Edo period (1603-1867), Ichikawa Hanabi was one of the three most famous fireworks in Japan, and the town became known for its fireworks because of this. Art Created by Japan's Best Pyrotechnicians It's said that about half of the fireworks makers in Yamanashi Prefecture were located in Ichikawa, and there was a time when about 10% of the households in the town were involved in making fireworks. Local pyrotechnicians are in charge of launching fireworks in the town dubbed 'Fireworks Town.' Saikienka Honten and Marugoh, which have won awards throughout Japan, will create a spectacular fireworks show with music and colorful fireworks. The Shinmei Fireworks Festival is a spectacular display of fireworks, which are greatly affected by the weather, wind, and wind direction, but are so artistically and beautifully presented here. A Moving Performance of Music and Colorful Fireworks Photo:The Shinmei Fireworks Festival, Yamanashi, Japan The exquisite programming of the starmine by MARUGOH Fireworks, which delivered a knockout sensation in the grand finale, was a showstopper, with many people being blown away by the awesome display. The rainbow-colored fireworks moved to the music as if they were living creatures, making it feel like watching a musical. While vivid colors are mainstream for Japanese fireworks, pastel colors such as pale light blue and lemon yellow gracefully danced in the jet-black night sky. Summary of the Shinmei Fireworks Festival The Shinmei Fireworks Festival, one of Japan's representative fireworks shows, is a fireworks display filled with the passion of pyrotechnicians, which continues to evolve. In this video, you can feel the passion of the pyrotechnicians' souls while watching a fireworks show that can be enjoyed even via video. You'll feel like you've went to a fireworks show yourself after watching the video! 【TripAdvisor】The Shinmei Fireworks Festival https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g1121175-d10019707-Reviews-Shimmei_Fireworks-Ichikawamisato_cho_Nishiyatsushiro_gun_Yamanashi_Prefecture_K.html -

Kanazawa Gold Lead - A Traditional Japanese Craft Brimming With Culture This video, titled "手技TEWAZA「金沢箔」kanazawa gold leaf/伝統工芸 青山スクエア Japan traditional crafts Aoyama Square," was released by Japan Traditional Crafts Aoyama Square (伝統工芸 青山スクエア). In Japan, gold leaf is vital to the decoration of buildings and stone monuments, such as the ones introduced at 3:45 in the video, as well as various products, including bowls, dolls, folding screens, fans, and more. Gold leaf is also used to decorate Japanese food and sweets. The video shows how beautiful products are made with gold leaf. Enjoy the beauty of the traditional craft in the video. Kanazawa Gold Leaf, a Traditional Japanese Craft - How It's Made Photo:Gold leaf The manufacturing process of gold leaf begins with a process called "kin-awase" (金合わせ, melting silver and copper together with the gold). Gold alone is too soft, so small amounts of silver and copper are mixed into the material. This material is melted and then shaped. The gold plate, like the one shown at 1:48 in the video, is stretched thin in a process called "nobe-gane" (延金). A high level of skill is required to make the gold foil approximately 1/10,000th of a millimeter thick. The gold leaf is stretched thinly with a foil-striping tool, and finally transferred to Japanese paper and cut evenly, completing the Kanazawa gold leaf process. Purchasing Kanagawa Gold Leaf Products Photo:Gold leaf With the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen (bullet train), the number of tourists visiting Kanazawa is increasing year after year. If you're planning a trip to Kanazawa, we recommend visiting workshops, such as Hakuichi (箔一), and purchasing traditional Kanazawa gold leaf products made by a traditional craftsman as a gift or for yourself. Gold leaf may seem pricey, but there are surprisingly reasonably priced items, so be sure to check out the numerous products for sale. Summary of Kanazawa Gold Leaf Photo:Gold leaf This time, we introduced Kanazawa gold leaf, a traditional Japanese craft, and how it's made. Kanazawa gold leaf is a traditional craft designated by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry as such, and is one of the most representative traditional crafts of Kanazawa. On your trip to Kanazawa, we recommend experiencing Japanese culture at a hands-on class where you can make your own Kanazawa gold leaf and enjoying gourmet food made with Kanazawa gold leaf! 【Official Website】 Hakuichi https://www.hakuichi.co.jp/en/company/ -

The Rock Ptarmigan - An Endangered Species This video, titled "Endangered Species|Rock Ptarmigan|A Precious Encounter Whilst Mountain Climbing|Special Edition (4k)" (絶滅危惧種 雷鳥 登山で出会った貴重なニホンライチョウ動画 特集 【4K】), was created by "Yamacchi channel" (やまっちchannel). It contains footage of the rock ptarmigan, a protected species in Japan, as well as the Crested ibis and Red-crowned crane. Due to the effects of global warming, the number of rock ptarmigan in Japan has dwindled to around 1,500 and it is now recognized as an endangered species. This video contains a compilation of footage of the adorable rock ptarmigan, which was spotted whilst mountain climbing. In this article, we'll introduce the rock ptarmigan, an endangered species! More About the Rock Ptarmigan, an Endangered Species Photo:Tateyama ptarmigan Said to have survived the ice age, the rock ptarmigan is now an endangered species belonging to the order Galliformes, family Phasianidae and genus Lagopus (キジ目キジ科ライチョウ属, kijimokukijikaraichouzoku). The subspecies of rock ptarmigan which inhabits Japan is a very adorable and friendly bird, making it a favorite among mountain climbers. It has a characteristic call that sounds similar to that of a frog. From 0:14 in the video you can see the rock ptarmigan at Mt. Senjo (仙丈ヶ岳, senjogatake), and at Mt. Tsubakuro (燕岳, tsubakurodake) from 1:38, Mt. Chogatake (蝶ヶ岳, chougatake) from 2:09, and Mt. Jonen (常念岳, jounendake) at 2:04. Rock ptarmigan chicks average 6 cm in height. A fully grown adult rock ptarmigan measures 37 cm in height and weighs approximately 400-600g. They lay their eggs in early summer from the beginning to the middle of June. The color of their feathers also changes depending on the season. In summer, their feathers are a dark brown color, and in winter they change to a snowy white. Furthermore, the rock ptarmigan is a symbol of Toyama Prefecture (富山県 toyamaken), Nagano Prefecture (長野県, naganoken) and Gifu Prefecture (岐阜県, gifuken). Photo:Northern Alps The rock ptarmigan lives in a harsh environment at an altitude of 2,400 m. In the warmer summer months they live in the alpine zone, moving to the subalpine zone in the cooler winter months. In 1980, there were an estimated 3,000-4,000 rock ptarmigans living in Japan. However that number has dropped to around 1,500. The effects of global warming are considered to have been the direct cause of this decrease in numbers. It is thought that the decrease in creeping pine (ハイマツ, haimatsu) numbers, a main food source for the rock ptarmigan, due to global warming is one of the main causes of the decline in rock ptarmigan numbers. Several measures are being taken in order to conserve the rock ptarmigan, such as protecting the species from predators and breeding in zoos. Incidentally, rock ptarmigans have been kept in Ueno zoo (上野動物園, uenodoubutsuen) since 2019. The Habitat of the Endangered Rock Ptarmigan Photo:Tateyama mountain range and a ptarmigan There are 6 genera and 17 species of rock ptarmigan found across the world. They can be found in North America, the coast of the Arctic Ocean in Eurasia, Europe, and the alpine zone in Asia. In Japan, they inhabit the central area of Honshu (Japan's main island) (本州中部地方, honshuuchuubuchihou). In this video, you can see footage of the rock ptarmigan spotted whilst climbing Mt. Senjo, Mt. Chogatake, Mt. Tsubakuro and Mt. Jonen. Snacks shaped like rock ptarmigan are sold in Nagano prefecture, the home of the Northern Alps. A similar bird, the Hazel grouse (エゾライチョウ, ezoraichou), of the genus Tetrastes (エゾライチョウ属, ezoraichouzoku), inhabits Hokkaido (北海道), Japan's northernmost Island. Summary of the Endangered Rock Ptarmigan Source :YouTube screenshot This video "Endangered Species|Rock Ptarmigan|a Precious Encounter Whilst Mountain Climbing|Special Edition (4k)," created by "Yamacchi channel" (やまっちchannel), contains footage of the rock ptarmigan, an endangered species. We highly recommend the video to animal lovers as it has footage of the rock ptarmigan from different places all over Japan! It's a promotional video that shows Japan's traditional Maki-e lacquerware process in a timelapse. The video shows how Mitsuru Yamashita, a lacquer artist from Wajima City, Ishikawa, who is famous for producing lacquer, paints a beautiful goldfish on an iPhone case made of zelkova. It looks real enough to swim away! Maki-e, a traditional Japanese craft, is a lacquerware technique, that has been handed down since ancient times in Japan. It's a decorative technique that involves drawing a pattern on lacquerware or wood with lacquer or applying metal powder such as gold, silver, and tin on it before it dries. Lacquer is a natural paint made from the resin of plants of the Anacardiaceae family and has a culture and history of being used in architecture, furniture, stationery, etc. in Japan. Lacquered products are manufactured by division of labor, and the craftsmen who apply the decorative Maki-e designs are called "Maki-e-shi" (蒔絵師). In this video, you can see the techniques of the lacquer artist and the time and process required to make the Maki-e goldfish on the iPhone case. In recent years, "Maki-e" products are seen not only as traditional crafts, but products with Maki-e on ballpoint pens, fountain pens, accessories, stickers, etc. have become common as well. These are objects that can be used daily in modern life and are a way to implement a part of Japanese culture and traditional Japanese crafts into your everyday life. Maki-e, A Traditional Japanese Craft: How It's Made Source :YouTube screenshot In this video, they begin by designing the goldfish, which can be seen from 0:07 in the video, then copying the sketch called an "Okime" on the zelkova iPhone case, applying lacquer with a Maki-e brush, and then sprinkling it with metal powder and then drying it. At the end, they apply "fuki urushi" (wiping lacquer) to the zelkova iPhone case in order to finish it with a beautiful glossy transparent wood grain. You can see the beautiful shining Maki-e design and the finished product, from 1:54 in the video. The finished lacquer gives off a beautiful luster, and you can experience the beauty of traditional Japanese Maki-e and the magnificence of handicrafts in Japanese culture. Maki-e is categorized into several types depending on the process used, including "Hira Maki-e," "Togidashi Maki-e," "Taka Maki-e," and "Shishiai Maki-e." The technique that is seen in the video is "Taka Maki-e" and the lacquer is raised to draw a pattern and express it in a relief shape. The goldfish that rises smoothly from the wood is three-dimensionally expressed by the unevenness of the lacquer, and it is characterized by the deep color of the lacquer that has been applied many times. Summary of Maki-e, A Traditional Craft That Conveys Japanese Culture Source :YouTube screenshot Maki-e is said to have originated in the Heian period (794-1185), and it is an aspect of Japanese culture and traditional crafts with a long history. There are also national treasures that have been made using Maki-e techniques, and it is one traditional craft that should be protected as a traditional technique that conveys Japanese culture. Videos like this, where we can learn about traditional Maki-e techniques and how to use them, are important in passing down the traditional craft to future generations so they may cherish it like their ancestors did before them. -

This video, titled "Handmade Crafts "Uetsu Shinafu Weaving" / Japan Traditional Crafts Aoyama Square," introduces uetsu shinafu. The video was uploaded by Traditional Crafts Aoyama Square. Uetsu shinafu fabric is the oldest fabric in Japan woven using tree bark fibers. They were first created during the Jomon period (14,000 BC to 400 BC), and are counted as one of Japan's Three Ancient Woven Fabrics. Today, uetsu shinafu is produced in Tsuruoka, Yamagata Prefecture, the Sekigawa District of Uzen, as well as Murakami, Niigata Prefecture. In 2005, these uetsu shinafu products were designated Traditional Crafts by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Information. In this video, the production process of uetsu shinafu is introduced in detail. Do enjoy this video showing a tradition of Japan from days past. What Is Uetsu Shinafu? Introducing the Production Process and Methods Used to Make Them Source :YouTube screenshot The raw material of uetsu shinafu is bark derived from the Japanese Linden Tree, as shown from 0:33 in the video, with other sources being the bark of the, tilia maximowicziana, as well as the tilia noziricola. Firstly, the bark is peeled and dried, then boiled in water containing wood ash. Next, as shown in the video, the fibers are scrubbed in a river then dried once more. This article features a closer look at Nunobashi Kanjoe, a traditional Japanese ceremony that has been registered as a UNESCO Heritage for the Future. The History of Nunobashi Kanjoe, a Purification Ceremony in Tateyama, Toyama Source :YouTube screenshot Tateyama, a well-known sight in Toyama Prefecture, is counted as one of the three most sacred mountains in Japan. It has been worshipped as a spiritual mountain since ancient times. Entry to Tateyama was originally forbidden to females, and women were not allowed to climb the mountain during the Edo period (1603-1868 A.D.). It is believed that the origin of Nunobashi Kanjoe was when these female believers crossed a bridge called Nunobashi over the Ubadou River (姥堂川, Ubadou-Gawa) in Tateyama, praying to be accepted into paradise. A Closer Look at Nunobashi Kanjoe, a Purification Ceremony in Tateyama, Toyama Source :YouTube screenshot Nunobashi Kanjoe includes the ceremony in which women dressed entirely in white enter the dimly lit Enmado-Hall and perform sutra reading to pray for entry to paradise. This performance is shown at 2:41 in the video. Nunobashi Kanjoe has been actively practiced since the Edo period, but was once abolished due to the abolition of Buddhism during the Meiji period (1868-1912 A.D.), and only recently revived in the Heisei period (1989-2019 A.D.). Nunobashi Kanjoe is now held only once every three years, so nowadays, it is a sacred ritual that can rarely be seen. Nunobashi Kanjoe was registered as a "Heritage for the Future" by UNESCO Japan in 2012, in recognition of its historical and valuable rituals.
